#RiseUp together to beat breast cancer
#RallyInScreening Everyone

Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the MOST COMMON cancer in American women.
Although rare, men can also get breast cancer, representing around 1% of all breast cancer cases.
In the U.S. alone, breast cancer is responsible for over 40,000 each year.
You should know how your breasts normally look and feel. You should be aware of any new lumps on your breast or armpit, dimpling or puckering on the breast, discharge from nipple, skin redness, scaliness on nipple, and any other nipple or breast changes.

Death rates have been declining partially due to better screening and earlier detection.

It is VERY important to have any new lumps, or breast changes checked by your primary care physician. You should also know that self-examinations should NOT take the place of having a regular mammogram.
A mammogram can help you find breast cancer before any symptoms appear! Women 40 and older should have a mammogram every year. Women younger than 40 who have risk factors of breast cancer should speak with their PCP about possibly getting screened.
Although there is no known way to prevent cancer, there are habits that can help reduce your risk.
Maintain a healthy weight
Stay active
Eat a healthy diet consisting of plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean meats and nuts
Do not smoke
Drink alcohol in moderation

The goal of Talk About Your Medications Month, is to better promote and enlighten communication between both patient and PCP, specifically regarding  the safe and appropriate use of medications.

Red Ribbon Week is October 23rd-31st.
The purpose of this week is to take a stand against drugs and underaged alcohol consumption. Let's create a DRUG FREE AMERICA. Talk to your children about the dangers of drug and alcohol use.

This year's theme is "Drug Free Looks Like Me"

One-Stop Shop: A primary care provider knows how to deal with everything from helping you with the flu, to back pain, to uncovering serious illnesses like cancer and heart disease.
Someone Who Knows All About You: Over time, your provider will get to know you as person!
Coordination of Care: Your primary care provider is the person who helps you navigate the healthcare jungle. They help you find the best specialist, if needed, and order tests and diagnostics.
Keeps You Healthy: They aren’t just interested in you when you’re sick. They want to partner with you on a wellness and prevention plan too. Consider them your best source for information on things like weight management, smoking cessation, help with alcohol and drug use, and managing depression, stress and anxiety.
Routine Screenings: Your PCP will do or arrange for screenings such as mammograms, colonoscopies, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and more. It’s important to note that many serious illnesses are found during routine physicals.

Did you know that depression occurs most often during the winter months due to fewer hours of sunlight and people's time primarily being spent indoors!?
Major depression is one of the most common mental disorders in the U.S!!!!
Depression in men is normally not diagnosed or is diagnosed at a more serious stage. This can have devastating consequences if left untreated.
Depression can affect people of ALL ages!!! In 2017 an estimated 3.2 million adolescents between the ages of 12-17 had at least one major depressive episode.
If you suffer from depression or anxiety you should talk to your doctor about doing a depression screening! This is simply a list of questions your doctor will ask you to determine if you suffer from depression and to what degree.
You should not wait to see your physician if you have any depression symptoms!!!!!
