FIGHT LIKE A GIRL
Picture
Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the MOST COMMON cancer in American women.

Although rare, men can also get breast cancer. This represents around 1% of all breast cancer cases. In men, it is often found at a later stage when it is more difficult to treat!

Finding breast cancer early gives you a better chance of successful treatment! You should know how your breasts normally look and feel, being aware of any new lumps on your breast or armpit. Other symptoms can include dimpling or pucker on the breast, discharge from nipple, skin redness, scaliness on nipple, and any other nipple or breast changes.

It is VERY important to have any new lumps, or breast changes checked by your primary care physician.

A mammogram can help you find breast cancer before any symptoms appear!
Women 40 and older should have a mammogram every year
Women younger than 40 who have risk factors of breast cancer should speak with their PCP about possibly getting screened.

Osteoporosis

Picture
Osteoporosis is a condition in which one’s bones become thin, losing their strength, leading to broken or fractured bones.
It can occur in people of any age, although it is more common in those 50 or older.

Osteoporosis, often called a silent disease, can show little to no signs or symptoms. You may not know you have osteoporosis until your bones become so weak that a small bump or fall can cause a bone to break or fracture.

You should have your wellness exam performed every year by your primary care physician. Over a certain age your physician will recommend that you have your bone mass measured. This is also called a bone density test.
You can prevent osteoporosis by eating foods that have a variety of vitamins and minerals. You need plenty of calcium and vitamin D. This includes milk, yogurt, cheese, fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, salmon, tuna, and egg yolk.
Also be sure to get plenty of exercise/physical activity. Exercise improves bone health and increases muscle strength, coordination, and balance.

Depression

Did you know that depression occurs most often during the winter months due to there being fewer hours of sunlight and the majority of one's time being spent indoors?!

Major depression is one of the most common mental disorders in the U.S!
Depression affects men and women differently. In men, depression is normally not diagnosed or is diagnosed at a more serious stage. This can have devastating consequences if left untreated.
Depression can affect people of ALL ages!!!
If you suffer from depression or anxiety, you should talk to your doctor about doing a depression screening!
A depression screening is simply a list of questions your doctor will ask you to determine if you suffer from depression and to what degree.
You should not wait to see your physician if you have any depression symptoms!

GET YOUR WELLNESS EXAM
This is a preventative visit, that is fully covered by your insurance.
A wellness exam consists of complete lab work, a complete physical exam & yearly diagnostic tests such as a mammogram, bone density and colonoscopy.
A wellness visit is pertinent in the early detection of many cancers, illnesses and osteoporosis.

High Blood Pressure?

We can offer you a TAKE HOME blood pressure cuff!
All results will be sent DIRECTLY to our office, where a nurse will print your results & give them to your physician. This is also covered by some insurances!

Cardiac arrest is NOT the same as a heart attack.

Cardiac arrest is the sudden loss of heart function, when the heart stops beating properly.
It is often fatal if not treated immediately. It may be reversed if CPR is performed, and a defibrillator is used to shock the heart.
Cardiac arrest may be caused by almost any known heart condition.
Keep your heart healthy by eating a healthy diet, exercising, drinking alcohol in moderation & not smoking tobacco.
